"Once upon a time, one little piggy had a PIG idea..."

This grass roots festival started when original Chief Baconeer, Kathryn Stevens had a 'light-bulb' moment one night when washing up. She discussed the idea of launching a festival with friends over coffee and before long an eager team of bacon-loving volunteers were assembled. The first taste locals and visitors alike got of what is now a well-known festival on Queensland's event calendar, was back in 2018. Kingaroy BaconFest was established to highlight the importance of buying Australian pork products and supporting Aussie producers.

In 2019, the second Kingaroy BaconFest was held and proved to be 'pigger' than the previous. However, like many events across the country in 2020 and 2021, BaconFest fell victim to the COVID 'hamdemic' and were forced to cancel their annual events. Bouncing back and crispier than ever in 2022, Kingaroy BaconFest has continued to attract bacon-lovers from across the country each August. â€‹

Let’s squeal together about our bacon community!

Kingaroy BaconFest is a one night and one day sizzling food festival that celebrates the versatility of bacon and puts Australian pork centre stage. â€‹As one of the South Burnett's favourite food festivals, BaconFest always promises a crackling good time for locals and visitors alike.

The organising committee has made it their mission in 2025 to be inclusive and they look forward to connecting with the wider community, by encouraging regional economic growth through destination tourism and local business support.

A rural town with BIG personality - Kingaroy, QLD 4610

The name Kingaroy comes from the Wakka Wakka aboriginal word, Kingarooi - which means 'Red Ant'.

If you closely, you will find this unique species of ant around the area. Gracing the skyline of Kingaroy are the twin towering peanut silos. A landmark in the South Burnett region, the silos highlight Kingaroy's long history with peanut farming. Known as the 'Peanut Capital of Australia', Kingaroy is also known as the hometown of former Queensland Premier, Sir John Bjelke-Petersen. These days while peanut farming still occurs, many regional farmers have diversified into many different crops, cattle and wine production.

One of the South Burnett region's largest employers (and BaconFest's Naming Rights sponsor) Sunpork Fresh Foods operates their world-class processing facility Swickers in Kingaroy. The state-of-the-art facility processes fresh pork and distributes widely across Australia and internationally. Swickers is the only export accredited pig abattoir in Queensland, with the Kingaroy facility built in 2019.

Located on the junction of the D'Aguilar and Bunya Highways, 3 hours northwest of Brisbane - Kingaroy is a thriving town that boasts old fashioned country hospitality. Say g'day to the locals when exploring the family owned and operated businesses. Grab a bite to eat from one of the cafes and restaurants, and explore the museums, look outs, art gallery and all that Kingaroy has to offer!
